2012 Day One

Well; it was the first day of 2012 and what was I doing? Making art.

I want to talk about a new technique I discovered for making ATC’s and anything else artsy.
A long time ago I got hold of a box of drafting and appliqué film made for laser printers. I had no idea what to do with it; I don’t even think I had a laser printer at the time; so it sat in my file cabinet for the longest time. The other day I got this idea.

I printed my fractals onto the film.

I got some card stock and drew doodles on it: just black and white swirls, circles and dots. I peeled off the fractal designs and applied them to the card stock. This gave me a layer of black and white under a layer of translucent color design. I measured the sheet into ACT size: 2 ½ by 3 ½ and cut the sheet. I got about 9 (depending on how you cut the sheet) cards, each with a different part of the design.

I printed some of my cartoons on card stock, hand colored them  and cut them out.

I glued everything down and embellished them with finishing touches.

I saved the left over strips for journals or other art.
Another thing I can do with the appliqué film is draw my cartoons and put them on mixed media art. You can draw and color on this film but be careful not to scratch it. The color will come off. I haven’t tried sealing it yet.

I would have to warn you that once you cut out the shapes they are a bear to peal off. Try cutting the film with an Xacto knife without cutting the paper underneath. The film has a permanent adhesive. If you get a crease or wrinkle it well be part of the art.
