One of the best things I discovered this past summer were flame fractals.
These are different from your regular Mandelbrot set fractals. Flame fractals have a whole different set of rules.

This is a flame fractal
Many Mandelbrot fractals, as on the Fractalus site are created and displayed for their own beauty. Flame fractals are too, by many artists. But I see something in the shapes that make me want to go further.
They remind me of planets, storm clouds and the cosmos. They may look like towers, alien birth places or tunnels to other dimensions.
I have a lot of fun with them: not only creating or discovering them, but incorporating them in to my illustrations. Check out some of the newer pieces in the gallery and see what I mean.
For exquisitely beautiful flame fractals visit the galleries at Arcane Fractals.
BTW. The colorful graphics used as headers for these pages are flame fractals of my own creation.
