Hearts for Charity

Each year a local gallery has a fundraiser. They give out wooden hearts to artist to paint.  Each year I seem to miss the giving out of the hearts. I only see the advertisement for the show. So this year when I received the announcement that the hearts were available I went to the gallery and got some.

3 blank wooden hearts

Blank hearts

They used to give them away but I suppose people were taking them and not bringing them back, so now they are charging. Makes sense. They were 1 for $5 and three for $10 so naturally I got three.

Here are the results. (Sorry for the blurry pics. I have no idea why this is happening.)

Coyote juggling balls

Coyote the Trickster

Last year I did a presentation on the history of the trickster. This is Coyote. The balls he is juggling are glued on wooden disks.

little girl artist

Rebecca, the artist

This is one of a series I call Li’l Young’ens. There are 12 children. This is Rebecca. The stars are wood shapes painted silver and gold.

Mermaid and fish

Mermaid

I have used this mermaid on several cards. The fish is an illustration from a short story I wrote. The circles are wooden disks I painted and glued on.

Each of these works is a collage. The characters were drawn on watercolor paper. Each heart is painted and coated with sparkles that can’t be seen here.

Next week I will schlepp back to the gallery to present my offerings. I hope they sell.
